Alcohol Policy

for Events Sponsored by

the Diocese of New Hampshire

Intent

The intent of this policy is to create an environment for Diocesan events where:

1. the safety of each person attending such events is the primary concern,

2. individuals are respected as adults with the ability to make appropriate decisions regarding alcohol consumption,

3. the Diocese, as an event sponsor, takes appropriate steps to reduce risk and liability as both relate to alcohol consumption and the personal safety of    those attending such events.

Definitions

Diocesan events are understood to be any diocesan related events hosted by the Bishop, the Bishop's office, or committees of the Diocese. This includes but is not limited to: clergy days, clergy outings, clergy conferences and retreats, and Standing Committee and COM retreats.

The Policy

I. Alcohol will not be served at any event where by the nature of the event, attendees will be driving upon the event's conclusion.

II. At events where some participants will be staying overnight, while others will be driving home, those driving home will not be served alcohol.

III. At any event where alcohol will be served, eligible participants (according to item II) will receive two tickets redeemable for two drinks through the course of the night.

     A. The alcohol will be served by a designated person or persons who will collect the tickets.

IV. At events held in public settings (such as baseball games or hotels and conference centers) the Diocese acknowledges that it can not be responsible for those individuals who choose to purchase alcohol from event related vendors.

V. At all events, attractive alternatives to alcohol will be provided.
