Description of Positions Open for Nomination

at the 2008 Annual Convention

Treasurer of Convention

The Treasurer oversees receipts and disbursements of all moneys collected under authority of the Convention. The Treasurer’s accounts are submitted annually to the Convention following the audit. A Treasurer shall be elected at each annual session of the Convention for a term that continues until the next annual session of the Convention and any vacancy in this office is filled by the Standing Committee for the remainder of the term. As an ex officio member of Convention, the Treasurer has voice and vote.

The Standing Committee

What does being on the Standing Committee involve? The Standing Committee has six members, three clergy and three adult confirmed communicants. At the annual Diocesan Convention, one clergy and one lay adult communicant are elected to a three-year term. Meetings are scheduled at Diocesan House monthly and currently meet on the second Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Standing Committee is the Bishop’s council of advice and the ecclesiastical authority in the absence of the Bishop. It also shares responsibility for the ordination process, is consulted for consent for the election and consecration of new bishops in the Church and reviews requests from congregations to encumber their property.

Council Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is made up of a chairperson, a Trustee, one member chosen by the Diocesan Council, three at-large members elected by Diocesan Convention, one member nominated by the Finance Committee and approved by the Council, and the Treasurer of Convention. The three at-large members elected at Convention serve for three-year terms renewable once. The Finance Committee is responsible for preparing the budget for the following year for the Council’s review and approval in advance of the Convention.
