Fundraising swim and cookout at the home of the Rev. Johanna Young
Location: 1388 South Main Street in Washington
Join Johanna (either swimming or by canoe/kayak) in her annual swim down Millen Pone Lake ending at Brighton’s Beach as a mini fundraiser for the Washington Conservation Commission (in memory of a Rich Cook, selectman who died as a result of a motorcycle accident several years ago).
Time: Swim begins at 10:00 am at the Washington Town Beach on Millen Pond Road. Public boat launch is a 1/4 mile down the road on the left.
Picnic at Johanna’s home begins at 12 pm. Bring food to share to accompany Jamaican jerk chicken and rice and peas. Parking limited so carpooling strongly encouraged.
Activities: fishing, exploring nature, short uphill hike on property, boating in pond, games. Note: Pond not suitable for swimming.
Bring: bug spray, sunscreen, collapsible chairs, boots for hiking.
Directions from Concord: 89N, exit 5 (left exit) to 202/9 West. Right turn on 31 N in Hillsboro near antique store. Follow approximately 6.25 miles. Yellow ranch up on a hill on left with two big ponds in front. Go over wetlands crossing and park at top of driveway. No parking on 31! Cell phone coverage is limited.
