The Heart of Recovery – A Spiritual Retreat for People in Recovery from Addiction
It has been said that the longest journey ever taken is the 18 inches from our head to our heart. For those of us in recovery, the path we follow from our head to our heart – the Twelve Steps – also leads us back to God. In this one-day spiritual retreat we will explore the heart of recovery, which is the spirituality of the program. We will talk about the practice of the Twelve Steps as a way of life that brings about the transformation and healing of our hearts, as well as engendering a sense of community and belonging. As a demonstration of this reality, there will be a healing service for those who would like to participate, in addition to opportunities for fellowship, sharing, and reflection.

Our retreat leader is John Braught.  John has over sixteen years’ experience in recovery, and has thought deeply about the relationship between the Twelve Steps and traditional spiritual disciplines. He lived for a time as a monk in a Christian monastery in Cambridge, MA, and has worked both personally and professionally with individuals and groups on the Twelve Steps. John holds a B.A. in philosophy and speech communications from York College of Pennsylvania, and an M.A. in philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
