“Traces of the Trade” Screening, Church of the Good Shepherd, Nashua

  • 214 Main Street Nashua, NH, 03060 United States (map)

The Church of the Good Shepherd, Nashua, in collaboration with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua and the Reconciliation Commision of the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire is proud to announce a screening of “Traces of the Trade: A Story From the Deep North” on June 11, 2023, at 4:00 PM. The film follows descendants of the DeWolf family of Rhode Island as they explore their ancestors’ roles in the slave trade and refutes the myth that slavery and profit from it was exclusive to the South.

“Over the past few years, many of us have taken the Sacred Ground course as we seek to become a Beloved Community. What we all discovered was there was a lot we did not know about our own history. This film, Traces of the Trade, shows one family’s story of discovering their own past as slavers shipping Africans to America in the seventeen and eighteen hundreds. The first step in becoming a Beloved Community is to know our own responsibility in that history. We hope this film will teach us all.” Mark Sylor, CGS organizing member.

The screening is open to the public and will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Mark Sylor. The starting time is 4:00 PM on June 11, 2023. Panelists are James McKim of the Reconciliation Commision and JerrieAnn Boggis of the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire. Church of the Good Shepherd is located at 214 Main Street, Nashua, NH 03060.
